Day 1

Team Building

  • Role and responsibilities of the team leader as a facilitator, coach and coordinator
  • Understand the limits of his/her own authority
  • Understand the benefits of team working
  • Understand the steps in team development
  • Setting objectives, planning, informing, controlling and evaluating
  • Understand the features of roles and responsibilities

Communication

  • Listen effectively
  • Plan and prepare effective briefings
  • Conduct effective briefings/communications
  • Understand fully the communication cycle
  • Communicator competence questionnaire completed by each participant, reviewed by course trainers and feedback given

Day 2

Motivation

  • Understand what motivates people, and use the motivational theories below to incentivise and stimulate their team
  • Use recognition of achievement and positive feedback to optimise the team's performance
  • The importance of creating a motivational environment

Problem Solving

  • Anticipate potential problems
  • Identify real causes of problems
  • Involve appropriate team members in generating solutions

Decision Making

  • Educate the candidate on alternative courses of action and the stages of decision making
  • Select and implement appropriate solutions, using a structured decision making technique
  • Handle issues effectively

Day 3

Time Management

  • Identify and analyze the major "Time Thieves"
  • Get SMART objectives and determine priorities
  • Plam and schedule own activities - to achieve team goals
  • Adapt plans to meet changing circumstance

Customer Relations Management

  • Recognise the difference between internal and external customers
  • Understand the "Customer - Supplier Relationship"
  • Recognise differing expectations of various customer groups
  • Manage customer relationships in order to maximise performance

Day 4

Planning Change

  • Work targets to meet organisational and customer requirements
  • Recognise team members and individual strengths
  • Plan and schedule team activities
  • Give clear instructions to meet performance standards

Key Performance Indicators

  • Select relevant information for performance monitoring
  • Maintain up-to-date information and report to management
  • Monitor plan vs. actual
  • Ensure monitoring system is understood by tem members
  • Take corrective action and give constructive feedback

Finance for Non-Financial Managers

  • Develop the "real cost per productive hour" figure for the individual process/enterprise
  • Understand managers by product service
  • Be able to identify potential loss makers
